Authorizations
Non-Emergency Medical Transportation (NMT) AND Non-Medical Emergency Transportation (NEMT)
If you have a medical condition that necessitates door-to-door assistance or any other type of support, please contact us in advance to obtain the necessary approval. This will ensure we can provide you with the appropriate accommodations and assistance during your visit.
-
What is a Non-Emergency Medical Transportation?
People who need extra assistance and a specialized vehicle for transport to and from medical appointments use Nonemergency Medical Transportation (NEMT).
NEMT should be used under the following circumstances:
- When you require assistance from the driver due to a physical or mental disability for travel to and from your home.
- When your medical appointment is covered by GCHP.
- When you have obtained written approval from your healthcare provider.
Limits of NEMT: NEMT won’t be provided if the service is not covered by Medi-Cal. You can find a list of covered services in your GCHP Member Handbook.
To schedule an NEMT ride, you need to request it through your healthcare provider and obtain their written approval. They will recommend the most suitable transportation option based on your medical needs.
Once your provider has given written approval for your NEMT request, you can call Ventura Transit System (VTS) at 1.855.628.7433 to schedule a ride.

What is a Non-Medical Transportation?
People who can ride in a car, taxi or bus use Nonmedical Transportation (NMT) to get to their medical appointments. You should use NMT when you don't need to travel in a specialized vehicle.
You can utilize NMT for Medi-Cal covered services including:
- Medical, dental, and mental health services.
- Substance use disorder services.
- Support group meetings.
Limits of NMT: NMT is exclusively accessible under the following conditions:
- Traveling to and from appointments for Medi-Cal-covered services.
- Collecting prescriptions and medical supplies.
- Unable to secure alternative transportation.
